I walked into a construction site recently and I almost dropped all my cleaning supplies. I was in a beautiful new home over on St. John’s Island. The home is large, the materials used are top of the line , and here was this young man, kneeling on the floor holding a steam iron in his hand. He seemed ready to apply it to a damp rag on the beautiful light oak floor. I blurted out, none too nicely, “What Are You Doing?”
He simply smiled and said,it’s okay Ma’am. He patiently explained to me that during construction the floors will sometimes sustain light scratches. The worker knew that if used carefully, the iron, in conjunction with the damp rag, could help lessen the look of the scratches. He and his crew were getting ready to seal the floors with polyurethane, and it is never a good idea to seal over scratches on the wood.
I don’t think we will try that here at Riverside Cleaning Services. We will leave it to the flooring professionals, but it is interesting!!
